An Evening with Mike Dawes

An Evening with Mike Dawes

Thursday, July 24 @ 7:30PMThu, Jul 24 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Mike Dawes is an English guitarist known for composing, arranging, and performing multiple parts simultaneously on a single guitar. He is regarded as one of the world’s most creative modern fingerstyle guitarists, with a repertoire spanning original viral videos and popular arrangements, alongside mainstream chart success performing with Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues.

Dawes was named ‘Best Acoustic Guitarist in the World’ two years in a row (2017 & 2018) by Total Guitar Magazine & MusicRadar reader polls, with numerous 2nd place rankings in the proceeding years. YouTube personality Rick Beato named Mike ‘one of the finest acoustic guitar players in the world.’

His debut release, a solo guitar arrangement of Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know,’ quickly became a viral hit with tens of millions of views on YouTube. This success has been duplicated and expanded upon numerous times since with songs like ‘One,’ ‘The Impossible,’ and ‘Jump’ across multiple video platforms.

His reputation has invited him opportunities to collaborate with GRAMMY Award-winning artists such as Tommy Emmanuel, with whom he recorded the duet record ‘Accomplice Vol. 3,’ and the GRAMMY-nominated metal band Periphery, with whom Mike joined on their 2024 double single release.

The Silos 40th Anniversary

The Silos 40th Anniversary

Friday, July 25 @ 7:30PMFri, Jul 25 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

The Silos, the still-kicking band Walter Salas-Humara co-founded in New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene played Alt-Rock, Alt-Country, and Americana before any critics coined those terms. They were named Best New Artist in the 1987 Rolling Stone Critics Poll. Throughout Salas-Humara’s career his voice has remained textured like a walnut; meanwhile, his narratives focus not on interior, abstract weaves of doubts and anxieties but on storytelling. He renders small incidents in granular detail that take on the weight of attentive, convincing poetry and wry wordplay. Each tune is marked by such humanity, which offers much refuge in a convulsive time.

Salas-Humara’s legacy would seem secure; his name is on 24 albums, his Horse Paintings hang in homes and galleries around the world, and his WaltersDogs portraits even appeared in the film Get Him to the Greek. but he’s hardly ready to call it a day. “It's still really fun for me,” he says of his musical pursuits. “In fact, I'm much happier than I've ever been in my life. I really enjoy traveling around entertaining. I see myself as an artist, but I also see myself as a communicator and entertainer — and teacher and mentor. And I love that. Back in the day, the Silos just blasted everybody's faces off. We hardly talked at all. Now, I play a songs, I tell stories. Then I hang out after.”

Sophie B. Hawkins

Sophie B. Hawkins

Saturday, July 26 @ 7:30PMSat, Jul 26 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Since the start of her musical journey, Sophie B. Hawkins has shown an uncompromising devotion to her singular truth, endlessly transcending boundaries and offering up new ways of experiencing the world around us. A multi-instrumentalist, who writes all of her own songs and is fully involved in every aspect of the production of her records, she is an enduring artist with a fierce commitment to her creative integrity.

Hawkins emerged as a vibrant force on the musical landscape with the arrival of her platinum-selling debut album Tongues and Tails and its iconic lead single “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover.” She defied categorization and embraced her individuality by embodying a daring fluidity as a song-writer and musician. She also challenged the norms of gender expression and sexual orientation by becoming the first entertainer to openly identify as omnisexual. Her ever-evolving career has included six beloved studio albums, multiple awards, sold-out concerts, songs in movies and on television (from recent hits Stranger Things, Euphoria, Ozark and PEN15 to landmark series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Dawson’s Creek, The L Word and more), memorable appearances on screen including the NBC series Community, the acclaimed documentary film The Cream Will Rise, and a critically-lauded performance as Janis Joplin in the nationally touring play Room 105.
